Guidelines for living with black bears

Enjoying Oregon’s natural beauty brings with it some responsibilities. Co-existing with the state’s bear population is one of them. By following the guidelines in this brochure, you can help keep Oregon’s bears safe and where they belong – in the wilderness.

Guidelines for living with cougars

Cougars, also called mountain lions, are Oregon’s largest cat species. While cougar sightings and encounters are relatively rare, it is wise to educate yourself about cougars.

Fishing

Siltcoos Lake is a 3,164 acre freshwater lake, with a shore line of nearly thirty miles. It is the largest lake on the Oregon Coast and one of the biggest in the entire Northwest Zone. Siltcoos has also produced two current Oregon State Record Fish for Sea-run Cutthroat and a 25lb.Coho Salmon.

Hiking

Year ’round hiking opportunities through forests and dunes abound in our area. Some trails even date back to the 1930s when the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) created them in Honeyman Park along with connector trails so you can access Woahink Lake.

Historic Westlake District

Westlake is an unincorporated community on Siltcoos Lake in Lane County, Oregon, United States, approximately seven miles south of Florence. Its area is included in the city limits of the incorporated city of Dunes City.

Kayaking

The Siltcoos Canoe/Kayak Trail. For thousands of years people have used and enjoyed the waterways of Siltcoos Lake and River. With 30 miles of shoreline, this is the largest lake on the Oregon Coast, and is thought to be named for Siuslaw Indian headman Tsiltcoos.

Lifestyle

Dunes City is located in the heart of Oregon’s National Dunes Recreation Area. Whether you like to fish, golf, sail or ride the dunes, you’ll find it all in Dunes City.

Wildlife

Wildlife viewing is a part of everyday life in our area. Birding is popular because the area boasts a year ’round population as well as migratory birds traveling along the “coastal flyway.”

Woahink Lake

Woahink Lake is located on the central Oregon coast south of the city of Florence and about three miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. Its southern end lies adjacent to US Highway 101, so that it is seen by all travelers on this major arterial.
